Mission Statement

As a community of Christ responding to God’s love, we embrace our responsibility to be faithful caretakers of creation.

Responsibilities

Education:

Environmental information will be given to the church community through the website, the monthly newsletter “Tidings,” weekly bulletins, the bulletin boards, classes, announcements in worship, etc.Church operations:  We pledge to carefully monitor the use of our resources, with the intention of minimizing waste, reducing energy use, and creating a healthy environment inside and outside the building.Worship:  Our commitment to environmental integrity will be present in worship through word, music, and the arts.

Outreach:

We desire to model environmentally-responsible behavior through this church, but in our personal lives, the wider community in Salt Lake City, and the world.

Action

Eco-Friends:  This group’s purpose is to put into action our mission and goals.  They meet once a month, and anyone is welcome to join.Recycling:  Look for the blue recycling bins in every room and the larger recycling bin near the kitchen.  We recycle paper and cardboard in a large dumpster in our parking lot, and aluminum, plastic, and glass are taken elsewhere to be recycled.  There is also a compost bin in the kitchen.  The compost is taken to a bin outside to create nice soil for the garden.  Please take advantage of the recycling and compost bins!Resources: Although HUCC already uses many products that are eco-friendly, we are currently switching more products over to ones that will minimize our environmental impact.

Community Activities:

Eco-Friends organizes activities such as planting trees, picking up garbage, going to a movie together, and so forth.  Keep checking back to see what’s coming up!
