Christ is alone is Head of the Church. The UCC has roots in the "covenantal" tradition—meaning there is no centralized authority or hierarchy that can impose any doctrine or form of worship on its members. Holladay United Church of Christ is governed by its Church Council.
Church Council representatives are elected by members of the congregation. The Moderator is the head of the Council and serves a one-year term. The Council guides vision, development, ministries, calling of a Pastor (when needed) and the financial budget. The Council is supported by the Visioning Board, Board of Ministries and Board of Stewardship. All significant decisions including budgetary, confirmation of vision direction, andcalling of a pastor are voted on by the Congregation. HUCC is part of the UCC in covenant and considers actions and directions of thelarger body but is not bound by them.
The Visioning Board listens to the desires and needs of the community both now in the future. Through a generative process the Board develops the church’s vision. The Visioning Board works closely with the Board of Ministries and Board of Stewardship to execute the vision.
The Board of Ministries serves as an enabling team to support all of the small groups that minister to our community, both at HUCC and outside of our church walls. The Board of Ministry is led by an elected chair andvice chair. Other members join the Board who have an interest in ministry and may lead related small groups.
The Board of Stewardship serves as an enabling team to support all the support groups that steward the church’s resources. The church resources include the building, staff, and funds. The Board of Stewardship is instrumental in executing our giving programs. The Board of Stewardship is led by an elected chair and vice chair. Other members join the Board who have an interest in stewardship and may lead related small groups.
