Registration for 2019-20 Sunday School.
Holladay UCC is firmly committed to providing a supportive and inspirational church home for our children, teens and young adults. The congregation put this commitment into action in 2019 by calling a new Associate Pastor for Youth and Families, Rev. Chelsea Page. The Church Council representatives for faith formation are Ava Foulke and Laurie McBride. Our organizational chart for faith formation can be accessed here.
Youth groups meet with the leadership of Pastor Chelsea, the Transitional Faith Formation Team, and adult volunteers. Middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) youth groups meet separately on a monthly or twice-monthly basis. Youth group is a time of “friendship with a purpose” – building relationships that deepen our spirituality and inclusive welcome.
Youth and children’s activities are announced through the weekly Tidings newsletter and “The Bell,” a monthly Faith Formation e-newsletter which goes to all Tidings recipients. Check The Bell blog page to see the latest Faith Formation calendar of activities.
Confirmation class for 8th and 9th graders (also open to grades 10-12) is led by Pastor Chelsea and church members Jen and Shane Smith. We meet several Sundays a month after worship leading up to Confirmation Sunday in May, when all participants will be celebrated regardless of their decision to be confirmed. This class is an opportunity to discover one’s spirituality and an initiation into serving God’s mission through our church and in the wider world.
This year’s youth programming will culminate in our UCC denomination’s National Youth Event in July, which will have a strong service and mission component. Youth grades 6-12 are also invited to attend fall and spring weekend retreats at the UCC camp La Foret in southern Colorado.
